INITIAL RESPONSE

When an individual is threaten or assaulted, by an armed or unarmed assailant:

• Call 911 and call Security 77777
• Call 911 and call Security (312) 227-7777
• Provide as much information as can be safely provided - location, number/ description of suspects, and type of weapon
• Shelter in place if in immediate danger
• Remain calm
• Alert others
• Move into safe haven location (office, supply room)
• Shut and lock the door
• Block the door with a heavy object

SECONDARY RESPONSE

& FOLLOW UP

Once in safe haven location:

• Silence cell phones and pagers
• Turn off lights, close curtains or blinds
• Spread out, crawl under desk or other furniture

If not in immediate danger leave the building through the closest exit

• Move to your assigned gathering area (Refer to the EVACUATION procedure)
• Wait for instructions from Building Security and/or Chicago Police Department
• Complete Safety Event Report
