INITIAL RESPONSE

Minor spill, presenting no harm occurs:

  • The person that discovered or caused spill, without any special equipment beyond what they normally use, can clean up minor spill. These spills should be cleaned up promptly and no further action is needed
  • Isolate the area
  • Obtain Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and follow directions
  • Contain the spill/area
  • Major chemical spill

    • Evacuate the area
    • Call 911 for any exposed/injured individuals requiring medical care
    • Notify anyone affected by the spill Isolate the area of the spill

     

    SECONDARY RESPONSE

    & FOLLOW UP

    • Minor spills - call cleaning services for disposal of contaminated material upon completion of clean-up
    • Staff must not clean up spills for which they have not been trained which would include any major spill
