INITIAL RESPONSE

When an evacuation is necessary from a floor or building:

  • Remain calm
  • Alert others in the area of need to relocate or evacuate
  • Listen for instructions
  • Move out of the immediate area
  • Exit the floor through the closest stairwell unless otherwise directed by the Chicago Fire Department.
  • Do not use the elevator
  • Once outside the building move to designated meeting place (if exit out North Main door head east toward Dayton St, turn south walking across Eastman St., head west and gather at the north end of the parking lot. If you walk out the East stairwell, exit building and head south, walking across Eastman St., head west and gather at the north end of the parking lot
  • Account for all patients, parents, visitors, and staff

 

SECONDARY RESPONSE

& FOLLOW UP

  • Suggested relocation or evacuation priority: ambulatory, assisted, then dependent
  • Move those persons unable to walk down the stairs to the stairwell which is a safe area of refuge.
  • Notify Chicago Fire Department of any person unable to walk down the stairs in the stairwell.
  • Report any missing person to security or Chicago Fire Department.
  • Wait for instructions from the Chicago Fire Department and/or Hospital Designee before re-entry.
