INITIAL RESPONSE

When an evacuation is necessary from a floor or building:

  • Remain calm
  • Alert others in the area of need to relocate or evacuate
  • Listen for instructions
  • Move out of the immediate area
  • Exit the floor through the closest exit
  • Once outside the building move to designated meeting place
    • From the front entrance head straight across to the back of the parking lot and gather near the far median.
    • From the rear entrance, turn right and head north to Dempster, head east to the front of the building and head to the back of the parking lot and head south to the median at the back of the lot where other staff/patients are located.
  • Account for all patients, parents, visitors, and staff

    SECONDARY RESPONSE

    • Suggested evacuation priority: ambulatory, assisted, then dependent
    • Notify Evanston Fire Department of any person unable to evacuate the building.
    • Report any missing person to Evanston Fire Department.
    • Wait for instructions from the Evanston Fire Department before re-entry.
    • Call and update Lurie Hospital Security 312-227-7777
