INITIAL RESPONSE

When severe weather cause problems (i.e., tornado, high winds, damaging hail, lightning strike) :

  • Remain calm
  • Alert staff of weather conditions
  • Listen for weather condition updates
  • Call your immediate manager for further instructions
  • If possible, you should remain in the building until the weather improves

When a severe weather warning is issued an overhead announcement is made in the building to move to a safe location such as an interior hallway away from windows

  • Stay away from the perimeter of the building and exterior glass
  • Close blinds/doors if time permits
  • Do not use elevators
  • Remain in center area until “All Clear” is issued by Public Address System

 

SECONDARY RESPONSE

& FOLLOW UP

When “all clear” announcement is made by Building Security and/or the weather condition improves

  • Return to normal operations
  • Call Hospital Security (312) 227-7777 with an update
  • Call Hospital Security (312) 227-7777 with an update

If it becomes necessary to evacuate the building then,

  • Remain calm
  • Alert others in the area
  • Listen for directions from Chicago Fire Department, Building Security and/or Hospital Designee
  • Refer to the EVACUATION procedure
