INITIAL RESPONSE

When you see fire, smoke or something burning:

  • R - Remove individuals from danger
  • A - Activate the fire pull station/Press the EMERG soft key or call 911 (Pull station located at all exits)
  • A - Activate the fire pull station/Press the EMERG soft key or call 911 (Pull station at doors to the main exits)
  • C - Close all doors
  • E - Evacuate the area
  • ----------------------------------

If you hear the fire alarm, leave the building if able to move your patient.

If you smell smoke contact on site Building Engineering, if after Building Engineering hours activate the fire pull station/ Press the EMERG soft key or call 911

SECONDARY RESPONSE

& FOLLOW UP

To extinguish a small fire, locate the fire extinguisher (look for red signage ABC in most areas, MRI is water mist):

  • P - Pull the pin
  • A - Aim the nozzle at base of fire
  • S - Squeeze the handles together
  • S - Sweep from side to side

Type of fire extinguisher is used

  • Dry Chemical in most areas
  • MRI ABC water mist in MRI area
  • Call and update Lurie Hospital Security (312) 227-7777
