INITIAL RESPONSE

When an evacuation is necessary from a floor or building the Schaumburg Fire Department will make an announcement and provide direction.

  • Remain calm
  • Alert others in the area of need to relocate or evacuate
  • Listen for instructions from overhead announcement
  • Move out of the immediate area and to the nearest exit
  • If on the upper floors exit the floor through the closest stairwellunless otherwise directed by the Schaumburg Fire Department
  • Do not use the elevator
  • Once outside the building move to your gathering location. All staff,once outside, should head north to the grassy knoll near the hotel

 

SECONDARY RESPONSE

& FOLLOW UP

  • Suggested evacuation priority: ambulatory, assisted,then dependent.
  • Move those persons unable to walk down the stairs tothe stairwell which is a safe area of refuge
  • Move ambulatory and assisted patients to the balcony outside the building which is a safe area of refuge
  • Report any missing person to security or SchaumburgFire Department
  • Wait for instructions from the Schaumburg FireDepartment and/or Hospital Designee before re-entry
